Bridal Style – The Southern Belle
Reading Venue Safari‘s post about New Orleans wedding venues yesterday inspired me to style a wedding look for the true Southern belle. To me Southern wedding style is all about the pretty – classic looks with clean lines and romantic embellishments.
I started by looking for a wedding dress from a true Southern designer and found this sweet-as-tea gown from Heidi Elnora. If you aren’t familiar with Heidi, she hails from Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design. She competed on Project Runway and then launched her bridal line in 2006. All of the details on her gorgeous gowns are crafted by garment artisans in Alabama.
The classic A-line cut of the gown is perfect for a traditional southern bride and the cap sleeves make it appropriate for a church ceremony. The illusion and lace neckline and back detail are what really make this dress special. A cathedral length veil edged in lace like this one is the perfect pairing for this dress and completes the timeless look.
In true Southern fashion, I would accessorize with mom or grandma’s classic pearl earrings, white satin pumps and an embroidered handkerchief (for that something blue!).
A lily of the valley bouquet is the perfect finishing touch!
